Individual Poetry Anthology                                                              Due Date:

 

Former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky recommends that all students create their own poetry anthologies of favorite poems. You will be copying and assembling poems for an anthology of 25 poems made up of:

 

-         TEN poems with names of poets from the American Literature textbook.

-         TEN poems with names of poets from other poetry sources with source book titles and publishing information.

-         FIVE original poems you have written over the course of the next few weeks.

 

Your anthology will also include:

 

  1. Table of contents
  2. One page introduction to the collection
  3. Three-line biographical summary of each of the poets

 

Note: Each of the poems in your anthology should either be re-copied in your handwriting or re-typed by you. The booklet should have an attractive cover. (75 pts)

 

Extra Credit Dramatic Reading:

 

A reading of one poem from your anthology including a brief explanation of why you like it, something about the poet and the poetic elements you found most appealing.

 

P.S. – Poems are not song lyrics unless they include expressive language, figurative devices and create an original experience.
